Winter getaways are the perfect opportunity to escape frigid temperatures and recharge after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. I know many of my readers are heading somewhere warm and sunny, and when it comes to resort wear, my philosophy is that women over 60 should focus on packing comfortable, versatile pieces that feel as good as they look. Think outfits that are easy to dress up or down—perfect for reading by the pool, exploring a charming new town, or heading out to dinner. I hope these resort-ready looks inspire you as you pack for your next getaway!

Blues

Shades of blue are one of my favorite choices for resort wear. From classic navy and nautical stripes to tropical blue florals, they always feel fresh, timeless, and perfect for a warm-weather getaway.

This YONIQUE TANKINI from Amazon is super affordable and can be delivered to you in a hurry if you need a swimsuit for an upcoming vacation or pool day! This set includes a top and bottom, which is nice because you often have to buy them as separates on other websites. It comes in a ton of colors, but I opted for the navy blue tie dye.

La Blanca makes quality swimsuits and brings back many of the same styles year after year. I’ve had this cross-back one piece for several years, and it’s still in great shape! I thought this bright blue was fun, but you can also grab it in Indigo if you prefer a classic navy.

I love this little white coverup/dress. It’s fully lined, which makes it opaque enough to conceal my dark navy suit. I felt totally covered enough to grab lunch in town and do a little shopping. The cotton jacquard fabric was lightweight and airy, and I found that it dried quickly. I’m not into overly feminine details, but these fun tassels and embroidered trim are perfect for a warm-weather location, and I felt fabulous wearing this as a coverup and as a dress. It also comes in black.

I’ve always loved shirtdresses, and this cotton gauze one has a front tie that slims the tummy section without a separate belt. It rings most of my bells, and I’ve discovered it’s really quite perfect for me. It’s neutral (navy), has sleeves, and has a flattering V-neck.
Pinks

Pinks, corals, and colorful tropical prints add a cheerful vibe that’s perfect for sunny destinations. They pair beautifully with neutrals like crisp whites and rattan accessories. Plus, they are great adding a pop of color to neutral basics you already own.

I usually stick to a pretty neutral color palette, but a winter getaway always feels like the perfect time to try something fun and a little unexpected. Bright colors and playful prints can feel like a breath of fresh air, especially when you’re escaping the gray days of winter. It’s a chance to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with styles that might not make it into your everyday wardrobe at home.

Take this one-piece swimsuit for example. The color was so out of my comfort zone, but I was really happy I packed it because this bright color really pops in the bright sun. The side ruching is subtle but is an important feature for me because it helps camouflage my own ruching 😉. The legs aren’t cut too high, and the bodice is not low cut making it just the kind of modest bathing suit I like.
Blacks

Black is one of my go-to colors. It’s timeless, slimming, and hides wrinkles—so it’s as practical as it is stylish. It also works with just about anything, so you can keep it classic or add in colorful prints or fun accessories to mix things up.

A great pair of travel pants is a must for any getaway, and my Athleta pants have been a staple in my wardrobe. They’re made with quick-drying fabric, come in a variety of neutrals, and always look crisp—even after being hand-washed in a tiny hotel sink! They’re perfect for travel days, and can easily be dressed up for dinner. You can check out my full list of favorite travel pants here!

This black linen Quince shirt and wide-leg linen pants from Eileen Fisher have a loose fit and allow for plenty of airflow, making them ideal for a humid, warm-weather destination. I wore them with my straw crossbody, straw fedora, and some comfy Easy Spirit woven sandals.
Whites, Tans, and Creams

Last up, let’s chat about neutrals. Think crisp whites, soft creams, and tans. These colors feel light and fresh, making them perfect for sunny days by the pool or the beach. The best part is they go with any color of the rainbow, so you can pair them with any of the existing pieces in your closet.

A column of white is one of my signature looks, whether I’m traveling or not. It’s the perfect blank slate for accessories, which can be mixed and matched depending on your plans for the day.

I always recommend popping a skirt or a dress into your suitcase that can be dressed up for dinner or cocktails by the water. A lightweight cardigan is always nice to have on hand, too, in case the night air gets cool.
