Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights has called for an investigation into Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal after it emerged that he allegedly hired entertainers with dwarfism for his 18th birthday party. The event, which took place in Olivella, a town located 50 kilometers northwest of Barcelona, was attended by various influencers, YouTubers, and several of Yamal’s Barcelona teammates. The entertainers were reportedly hired as part of the entertainment for the evening, a move that sparked criticism from the Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain (ADEE). They condemned the action as “unacceptable” and filed a formal legal complaint, accusing Yamal of perpetuating harmful stereotypes and violating the rights of people with disabilities.
In response to the complaint, the Directorate General for People with Disabilities, part of the Ministry of Social Rights, has urged the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate whether Yamal’s actions violated current laws protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities.
