Terence Crawford made history on Mexican Independence weekend by defeating Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in front of a packed 70,000 crowd in Las Vegas and millions watching globally on Netflix. In what is being hailed as a career-defining and legacy-cementing performance, Crawford became the first male fighter in the four-belt era to be undisputed champion across three weight divisions. Entering the bout, Alvarez had dismissed Crawford’s résumé, claiming he had “fought nobody.” Within an hour of victory, Crawford clapped back with a sharp social media post, writing, “For all the nobodies,” in a statement that felt like a mic drop heard across the boxing world.
Terence Crawford, who turns 38 in less than two weeks, showcased a serene and calculated dominance from start to finish, cementing his status as one of the sport’s greatest. His victory not only dethroned boxing’s biggest star but also signaled a generational shift, putting Crawford at the very top of the pound-for-pound conversation. “Floyd was the greatest of his era. I’m the greatest of this era,” Crawford said after the fight, shutting down inevitable comparisons to Mayweather. With a perfect 42-0 record, including 31 knockouts, and now three undisputed titles across different weight classes, Terence Crawford has officially become the face of boxing, whether he wanted the crown or not.

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has revealed that she does not like being called the “Queen of Afrobeats,” a label frequently used by fans and the media. Speaking during a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, the “All Over” singer explained that although she appreciates the recognition, she finds the title uncomfortable due to the pressure it carries. Savage noted that her position as one of Nigeria’s most successful female artists may have contributed to the moniker, but stressed that it doesn’t sit well with her.
Tiwa Savage added that many other female artists in Afrobeats also deserve recognition for their contributions to the genre. “Yeah, they call me the Queen of Afrobeats, but there are a lot of us that are Queens,” she said. The singer further explained that accepting the title would require her to carry a certain level of humility, which she believes is unnecessary. “Personally, I don’t like that tag, it’s uncomfortable because I feel like if I start accepting it, I need to be humble, and secondly, it doesn’t make sense to me. So, I don’t accept it,” she stated.
3. Trump issues an ultimatum for NATO countries on Russia sanctions
Trump sets impossible demands for NATO as conditions for sanctions on Russia. NATO allies aren’t going to put 100% tariffs on China. This amounts to a statement that he does not intend to follow through on any of his threats.

President Donald Trump issued a stern ultimatum to NATO allies on Saturday, saying the United States will impose “major” sanctions on Russia only when all member nations agree to do the same and stop buying Russian oil. In a letter to NATO counterparts, Trump said continued oil purchases “greatly weaken” the alliance’s bargaining power with Moscow. He also urged NATO nations to place 50% to 100% tariffs on China until the war in Ukraine ends, predicting such measures would bring the conflict to a “quick” conclusion. Trump’s comments come as European countries remain divided over how far to escalate sanctions, with many still importing Russian fossil fuels despite an EU ban on maritime crude oil imports.
The ultimatum highlights rising tension between Washington and its allies over how to confront Russia’s war in Ukraine. Trump’s move comes just weeks after he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where momentum toward a negotiated settlement appears to have stalled. Meanwhile, Russia shows no signs of backing down, launching fresh drone attacks near the Romanian border on Saturday, prompting NATO to bolster security along its eastern flank. The president’s tariff push also risks straining transatlantic ties, as EU officials have signaled reluctance to embrace sweeping trade wars with China or India while negotiating key deals.

Global music star Akon is facing a major life change as his wife, Tomeka Thiam, has officially filed for divorce after nearly three decades of marriage. According to court documents filed in Fulton County, Georgia, on September 11, and obtained by People, Thiam cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The couple, who share one daughter, were approaching their 29th wedding anniversary next month. In her filing, Thiam requested joint legal custody but primary physical custody of their daughter, along with spousal support for herself, while asking the court to deny any spousal support requests from Akon.
The filing comes as the 52-year-old singer continues to publicly defend his views on polygamy, a practice he has long linked to his cultural roots. Akon, who has nine children, has previously said that balancing his career and family life often means his presence at home is limited, though he provides financial and emotional support where possible. Neither Akon nor Thiam has publicly commented on the divorce filing.

Former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has completed a move to Mexican club Monterrey from AEK Athens. The 29-year-old Frenchman has signed a two-year deal with the Liga MX side, with the option of a further year. Martial left Manchester United as a free agent in 2024 after nine years at Old Trafford, where he made 317 appearances and scored 90 goals. He went on to net seven goals in 19 league appearances for AEK before missing their last seven matches.
Martial, once the world’s most expensive teenager when United paid Monaco £36m for him in 2015, now joins a Monterrey side sitting second in the Liga MX table. The Mexican club, which added legendary Spain defender Sergio Ramos to its squad earlier this year, faces second-bottom Querétaro on Monday. Martial’s arrival is expected to boost Monterrey’s title push as they look to close the gap on league leaders.
