Hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 1, marking a major milestone in his decades-long career. The ceremony will feature tributes from fellow icons LL Cool J, Chuck D, and comedian Chris Rock. Speaking on CBS Mornings, Busta reflected on the significance of the moment, saying, “Thirty-five years of professional recording is a long earning of my rite to passage… Everything is divine timing.” The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce praised Busta as “one of hip-hop’s most enduring and electrifying voices,” whose impact has helped shape American culture.
In addition to his musical achievements, Busta Rhymes is returning to acting with a role in the upcoming Naked Gun reboot, alongside Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson. He shared that director Akiva Schaffer encouraged improvisation on set, making the experience especially memorable. Though Busta has previously appeared in films like Shaft and Higher Learning, this marks his first role since 2016’s King of the Dancehall. The rap veteran, who also recently received an honorary degree from Harvest Christian University, celebrated the Walk of Fame honor on Instagram, writing, “IT’S OFFICIAL!! FROM THIS DAY FORWARD YOU WILL FOREVER KNOW ME AS DR. RHYMES!!!!” Fans can stream the ceremony live via the Walk of Fame’s website.

Tiwa Savage, widely hailed as the queen of Afrobeats, has officially announced the release of her long-awaited new album, This One Is Personal, set to drop on August 29. The project marks her first full-length body of work since 2020’s critically acclaimed Celia, and is expected to showcase a deeply personal side of the artist. In a statement, Savage shared that the album reflects the past two years of her life and serves as a powerful outlet where she was able to “pour out her heart.” Fans can expect an emotional and genre-blending experience, rich with her signature Afrobeats sound and layered with R&B and soul influences.
The album’s rollout has already begun to build momentum with two standout singles: “On the Low,” a sultry collaboration with British-Nigerian rapper Skepta that debuted on BBC Radio 1, and “You4Me,” which highlights Savage’s gift for heartfelt storytelling. These tracks offer a taste of the album’s emotional depth and sonic variety. Following the international success of Celia, which featured global stars like Sam Smith and Davido, This One Is Personal is set to elevate Tiwa Savage’s status as one of Africa’s most influential musical voices. With the release just weeks away, excitement continues to grow for what could be her most impactful project yet.

American singer Ciara has officially become one of the first public figures to receive citizenship from Benin under a groundbreaking new law that grants nationality to descendants of enslaved people. The Grammy-winning artist was honored at a ceremony on Saturday in Cotonou, where Benin’s Justice Minister Yvon Détchénou praised the initiative as “an act of justice, but also one of belonging and hope.” Ciara’s naturalization is part of a broader campaign by the West African country to reckon with its history in the transatlantic slave trade and welcome members of the African diaspora back home.
Following her citizenship ceremony, Ciara walked the historic Slave Route in Ouidah, ending at the symbolic Door of No Return, a poignant reminder of the millions taken from the region during centuries of slavery. “Between emotion, reflection and heritage, I experienced a profound return to what truly matters,” she said. The new law, passed in September, allows individuals over 18 who can prove their ancestral connection to the slave trade, and who hold no other African citizenship, to apply through documents, DNA evidence, or testimony. With the launch of Benin’s digital platform My Afro Origins, the nation is blending reconciliation and “memorial tourism” to honor its past and create deeper connections with the global Black community.

Drake has officially cancelled his previously postponed tour dates in Australia and New Zealand, bringing disappointment to fans who were awaiting his return shows in Brisbane, Sydney, and a first appearance in Auckland. The Canadian rapper, who had already performed in several Australian cities earlier this year, abruptly left the region, citing scheduling conflicts. Live Nation Australia confirmed the cancellation in a statement, noting that “despite extensive efforts,” it was not possible to reschedule the shows within the required timeframe. All ticket holders will receive full refunds, with instructions provided via email.
While Drake has not personally commented on the cancellations, he is currently on his first European tour in six years, which has also faced disruptions. A sold-out show in Manchester set for July 28 was canceled just a day before due to “unforeseen ferry schedule and travel logistics,” according to the venue. The performance has now been rescheduled for August 5, with all original tickets remaining valid. Despite the setbacks, Drake continues to engage with fans on tour, recently paying tribute to Birmingham native Ozzy Osbourne during his time in the UK. Live Nation emphasized that Drake remains committed to performing in Australia and New Zealand in the future when scheduling allows.

Luis Díaz has completed a £65.5 million transfer to Bayern Munich, ending a successful three-and-a-half-year spell at Liverpool. The 28-year-old Colombian international has signed a four-year deal with the Bundesliga champions, who had an earlier bid of £58.6 million rejected before Liverpool accepted an improved offer over the weekend. Left out of the Reds’ pre-season friendly against AC Milan amid mounting speculation, Díaz now begins a new chapter in Germany after making 148 appearances and scoring 41 goals for the Merseyside club.
In an emotional Instagram post, Díaz reflected on his journey with Liverpool, expressing pride in his achievements, which include Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup titles. “I arrived with all the dreams in the world, and I am leaving proud of everything we achieved together,” he wrote. He also paid tribute to late teammate Diogo Jota, calling his death earlier this month a heartbreaking moment that overshadowed his departure. “It would have been the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way… I will never forget him. We will never forget him.” Díaz’s transfer contributes to Liverpool’s summer sales total of around £115 million, helping to balance the club’s £270 million outlay on reinforcements, including Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. The Reds continue to be linked with Newcastle striker Alexander Isak as they reshape their attack.
