1. Beyoncé wins her first Emmy Award for ‘Beyoncé Bowl’ halftime show

Beyoncé has officially added an Emmy Award to her growing list of accolades, taking home her first win for Outstanding Costumes in a Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Program for her “Beyoncé Bowl” halftime performance. The Western-themed show, staged during Netflix’s Christmas Day NFL broadcast between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans, featured the live debut of songs from her Cowboy Carter album and was held in her hometown of Houston. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, as she is legally known, was one of several team members credited in the juried award category, which recognizes technical achievements outside the traditional nomination process.

This Emmy marks Beyoncé’s first win after 10 prior nominations, moving her halfway to the prestigious EGOT status; she already holds 35 Grammy Awards. The juried award was among a small group announced Tuesday ahead of next month’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony. Beyoncé remains in the running for two more Emmys this year, including Best Variety Special and Best Direction of a Variety Special for the same show. In an added twist, her husband Jay-Z is also nominated, competing against her as an executive producer of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show.

2. Toke Makinwa announces pregnancy

Nigerian media personality and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has taken social media by storm with a surprise announcement: she is expecting her first child. In a touching Instagram video posted on August 13, Makinwa appeared radiant in a garden setting, cradling her baby bump and reflecting on what she called “the biggest project of my life” and “the highest calling ever.” Known for her candor and resilience, the On Becoming author credited divine timing for the blessing: “All that time I was convinced you had forgotten me… but now I see it.”

Makinwa, who has long been a dominant voice in African media, expressed gratitude for her journey into motherhood, writing to her unborn child, “Thank you for choosing me… to be the greatest reflection of God’s grace.” The heartfelt post sparked an outpouring of joy from fans and celebrities alike, many flooding her comments with congratulatory messages. The announcement follows her earlier reflections on singlehood and self-worth, where she bravely spoke about embracing her truth at 40. Now, she says, she’s stepping into her most treasured role yet: mother.

3. White House to host UFC match celebrating America’s 250th birthday

In a bold and unprecedented move, President Donald Trump has announced that a UFC fight will take place on the grounds of the White House on July 4, 2026, to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary. UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the news during an appearance on CBS Mornings. He revealed that Trump personally initiated the idea and tapped his daughter, Ivanka Trump, to spearhead the planning. “It is definitely going to happen,” White said, noting that renderings of the proposed setup are already in motion.

While no fighters have officially been confirmed, former champion Conor McGregor has already expressed interest, posting on X: “I would be honoured! Count me in!” The bout will be part of a series of nationwide celebrations organized by Trump’s “Salute To America 250 Task Force,” which aims to “ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation” across the country. Trump, who has long been a fixture at UFC events, promised a one-of-a-kind spectacle, saying, “We’re going to have a UFC fight… on the grounds of the White House.” If it proceeds as planned, the event will mark a historic fusion of politics, sport, and national celebration.

4. Young Thug calls out Gunna in new song snippet

Young Thug has ignited fresh tension with Gunna after a leaked snippet from an unreleased track surfaced during a listening session for Lil Baby’s upcoming album “The Leak$.” In the snippet, Thug takes a direct shot at his former YSL collaborator, rapping, “Only reason I f***ed with you, Gunna, it was ’cause of Troup,” referencing the late Keith B. Troup, a mutual friend and mentor who was murdered in 2015. The line marks Thug’s most explicit diss aimed at Gunna since his release from jail last year.

This latest jab follows months of subtle and not-so-subtle shots, including lyrics from Thug’s recent single “Money On Money,” where he alludes to betrayal and rats, with lines like “These f*** n****s tellin’ for nothin’” and “Brother, you a rat.” While Gunna has consistently denied cooperating with prosecutors during the YSL RICO trial, including via statements from his former lawyer, Thug’s lyrics and social media posts continue to suggest otherwise. Gunna has yet to respond to the diss publicly, but the rift between the two Atlanta rappers, once close allies under the YSL banner, appears to be deepening.

5. AC Millan confirms the signing of Koni De Winter

AC Milan have officially announced the signing of Belgian defender Koni De Winter from Genoa on a permanent deal, securing him until June 30, 2030. The 23-year-old arrives as a direct replacement for Malick Thiaw, who recently completed a move to Newcastle United.

According to reports from respected sports journalist Fabrizio Romano and other sources, the transfer fee is believed to be around €20 million. De Winter completed his medical on Tuesday and will wear the No. 5 shirt for the Rossoneri. A product of Zulte Waregem and later Juventus, he made his senior Champions League debut with the Bianconeri. He then gained experience on loan at Empoli and Genoa, where he eventually signed a permanent contract. With 68 Serie A appearances and three Belgium caps, De Winter brings both youth and experience to Milan’s backline as they prepare for the new season.
