2. Omah Lay’s manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, parts ways with the singer

Nigerian singer Omah Lay and his longtime manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, have officially ended their professional relationship. Awoniyi announced on Friday via his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the split was mutual and respectful. “With love and respect, I am no longer managing @Omah_Lay,” he wrote. “That’s my brother and I wish him all the best in his endeavours for life!”

Awoniyi, known for managing Grammy-winning singer Tems, as well as Nigerian-Canadian artist Nonso Amadi in the past, did not reveal the reason behind the split. 3. GloRilla responds to felony drug arrest

Memphis rapper GloRilla is addressing her recent arrest after news broke that she had been taken into custody on felony drug charges. The 26-year-old Grammy nominee, whose real name is Gloria Woods, took to X on Thursday, July 24, to explain her side of the story, revealing that her home was invaded while she was away performing at the WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis. “My house got home invaded Saturday while I was in Indianapolis… and instead of focusing on finding the suspects, they focus on some cannabis,” she wrote.

According to law enforcement, three individuals attempted to break into GloRilla’s Georgia residence and fled after being shot at by someone inside. When officers arrived at the scene and allegedly detected the smell of marijuana, they obtained a search warrant and discovered what they described as a “significant amount” of cannabis. GloRilla later turned herself in and was released on a $22,000 bond. Her legal team has criticized the arrest, calling it a “disturbing window” into misplaced law enforcement priorities, especially given that the suspects behind the break-in remain at large.

4. Ghana music legend Daddy Lumba dead at 60

Ghana is mourning the loss of one of its most celebrated musical icons, Charles Kojo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26 at the age of 60. According to a statement released by his family, the highlife legend died in a hospital after a brief illness. Remembered as a cultural icon whose music “touched countless lives,” Daddy Lumba leaves behind an indelible legacy in Ghanaian music and beyond.

With a career spanning over three decades, Daddy Lumba released 33 studio albums and rose to fame in the early 1980s with his breakout hit “Yeeye Aka Akwantuo Mu,” as part of the Lumba Brothers duo with Nana Acheampong. His catalog includes classics like “Aben Wɔha,” “Sika Asɛm,” and “Obi Ate Me So Buɔ.” His final public performance was in February 2025 during a Valentine’s Day concert attended by both music lovers and national figures. President John Mahama called his death an “irreplaceable loss,” and tributes continue to pour in for the man hailed by many, including Kofi Okyere-Darko, as “the greatest from Ghana in the last 100 years.” Funeral arrangements will be announced soon, with the family requesting privacy during this difficult time.

5. Bayern Munich land Luis Diaz in a €75m transfer deal

Luis Diaz is set to become Bayern Munich’s latest marquee signing after the German champions struck a €75 million (£65.6m/$88.1m) agreement with Liverpool. The Colombian winger has been granted permission to leave the Reds’ pre-season tour in Tokyo and will undergo a medical in the next 24 hours, according to multiple reports. Once finalized, Diaz will join Harry Kane and Vincent Kompany’s revamped squad as Bayern prepare for a fresh assault on the Bundesliga title.

Diaz leaves Liverpool after a productive two-year stint, during which he racked up 41 goals and 23 assists across 148 appearances and helped secure a domestic cup double in his debut season. His departure marks a significant shift in Liverpool’s attacking line under new manager Arne Slot. The Merseyside club has already signed Hugo Ekitike and is targeting Newcastle’s Alexander Isak to reshape their forward options for the 2025/26 campaign. Diaz, 28, is expected to sign a long-term contract with Bayern following the completion of his medical in Munich.
