We’re in that awkward time of year when summer clothes start to feel boring, but the weather isn’t quite ready for full-on fall. A few cooler, rainy days here in Vancouver have nudged me out of linen mode and into the mood for something with a little more structure. Since I spend summers here and don’t have an Eileen Fisher store near my home in California, I took the opportunity to pop in for an Eileen Fisher Fall 2025 try-on. I haven’t been in their store for months, so I was especially curious to see what’s new. I told myself I was just browsing… but you can probably guess how that ended.

I share honest thoughts on fit, fabric, and how things feel on a real body (mine’s 5’4”, with wide shoulders and straight hips, for reference). My goal is to help you shop smarter, skip the guesswork, and maybe find something you’ll be excited to wear. A Quick Note on Sizing
Eileen Fisher is wonderfully size-inclusive, offering most pieces in regular and petite sizes from XXS to 3X. The fit tends to be relaxed, so if you’re between sizes, you may want to size down, especially in their more flowy or wide-leg styles. I always try on a mix of sizes to see what works best for each piece, and I’ll note that throughout the post.
Classic Cotton Tees and Two Very Different Pants
I started with the kind of basics I wear on repeat…a nice cotton tee and a good pair of pants.
I tried on this Pima Cotton Jersey Tee in a size large, in the color Rye, which is a soft, cool taupe. I love these tees and already own a few. They’re smooth, breathable, and hold their shape well. This season, they come in several shades, including a royal blue and a soft everglade green. I ended up buying the medium, which was a better fit.
On the left, I paired it with their Stretch Denim Straight-Leg Jeans in a petite small. These have a high rise, no distressing, and a clean hem, which gives them a more polished look than your average denim. The fabric blend includes organic and recycled cotton with just enough elastane for stretch. The petite length hits perfectly at the ankle on me (I’m 5’4″), which is always a win.
On the right, I tried the tee with the Garment-Dyed Cotton Arch Pant in Rye. This is EF’s take on the barrel-leg trend, which they’ve embraced for years. It has a relaxed lantern shape and comes in three shades. These are 100% cotton with no stretch, but they still feel very comfortable. I’m wearing a regular small, which was too long on me because the shape works best when a bit of ankle shows.
Easy Layers for Warm Days and Cool Mornings
This look started with the Slub Jersey V-Neck Tee in a size large. It runs roomy, and this one was definitely a size too big for me. The color is Pale Sky, a soft, dusty blue that works beautifully with other neutrals. It comes in eight colors, all easy to mix and match.
To add some structure and tame the drape, I layered it with this Washed Poplin Sleeveless Shirt worn open like a vest. It’s cropped just enough to work well with higher-rise pants and creates a bit of shape over wide-leg styles. The poplin adds crispness that balances the softness of the tee. It comes in three classic shades and would be a great layering piece well into early fall.
The Cotton Poplin Wide-Leg Pants were the star of this look. I’m wearing them in Ink, a very dark navy that reads almost black. They have an elastic waistband (which I always prefer to cover), and I used my usual trick: tucked the tee in, then raised my arms to let just enough fabric blouse out over the waistband. These pants have roomy side pockets and a wide, loose leg that’s perfect for the warm weather we still have left. They run large, and I recommend sizing down. I’m in a regular small here and ended up buying the regular in XS.
Lightweight Neutrals That Still Feel Like Summer
I’ve always loved Eileen Fisher’s cotton gauze, and now that it’s on sale, it’s even more tempting. These Wide-Leg Pull-On Pants in Ink are lightweight, breezy, and surprisingly polished for such an easy fabric. I’m wearing a regular small, which has a 27″ inseam and hits nicely at the ankle on me. If you’re more petite, they also come in a 25.5″ inseam.
I paired them with the Linen Jersey V-Neck Tee, also in Ink, in a size small. The fabric is soft and breathable, with just enough drape. The tee has a cap sleeve, which isn’t my favorite—it’s not the most flattering cut on broader shoulders like mine—but it works well on women with narrower shoulders or a more petite frame. It comes in 13 colors and, like the gauze, is on sale right now.
Dark gauze and linen are great options for early fall, especially if you live in a warmer climate. They give you the feeling of dressing for the season without jumping straight into wool and boots. This is the kind of outfit I’ll reach for when it’s still warm but I want to look like I’ve moved on from July.
Playing with Texture: Bubble Knit and Lightweight Layers
This outfit came together by accident and ended up being one of my favorites.
I started with the Bubble Jacquard Crew Neck Top in a size medium. The fabric is a softly puckered knit with a subtle texture that gives the top some structure without adding bulk. It has a slim fit, but the stretch makes it surprisingly forgiving. I love that it smooths over the body instead of clinging and hides a lumps and bumps I’d rather not highlight. This came home with me.

I paired it with the Poplin Wide-Leg Pants in black, wearing a size XS. These are the same style as the Ink pair I showed earlier…elastic waist, roomy pockets, and a breezy, full leg. I sized down here for a cleaner fit, and I prefer the black for a more polished feel so they came home with me too.
Over the top, I tried the new Lightweight Cotton Nylon Classic Collar Coat in a size medium. It’s a true early fall layer that’s lightweight but structured, with a clean button front and deep pockets. The Royal color is bold and cheerful, though I wish I’d seen the Rye, which would be more my style. It runs very large, so I’d recommend sizing down. There’s a subtle inverted pleat in the back that gives it a bit of swing without feeling too voluminous.
Lightweight and Wrinkle-Proof: A Travel-Friendly Set
These woven plissé pieces are sold separately, but they make a beautiful pairing, especially if you’re looking for lightweight options that don’t wrinkle and can go straight into a suitcase.
I started with the Woven Plissé Dolman Sleeve Top (size small), which features a bateau neckline and dolman sleeves. The neckline and the sleeve shape creates a horizontal line across the shoulders, which emphasizes width, so I personally avoid them with my broader upper body. But if you have narrower shoulders or a more pear-shaped frame, they are very flattering and help add balnce to the hips. The top is slightly cropped and works well worn loose or tucked.
The matching wide-leg pants (also size small) are pull-on style with a smooth elastic waistband and a flowy, elegant drape. I tucked the top here to create more shape through the waist, but you could easily wear these pants with a fitted tee, a knit tank, or even a lightweight sweater as we move into fall. The fabric texture disguises wrinkles and feels cool against the skin making it perfect for warmer climates or travel days when you want to look pulled together with zero effort.
Structured Layers with a Soft Twist
COTTON TWEED JACKET size PM
I started with the Bubble Jacquard Funnel Neck Top in Ivory, size large. It also comes in black or rye, but I loved how fresh the ivory looked for early fall. The fabric is the same textured knit I mentioned earlier: lightweight, stretchy, and surprisingly smoothing. The funnel neck has just enough height to add interest without feeling fussy or overwhelming.
The Straight-Leg Denim Jeans are the same pair I tried on earlier—this time in a Petite Medium. They’re a bit too roomy on me, so I bought the petite small, which are a better fit and length for me.
On top, I added the Cotton Tweed Jacket in a petite medium. It’s a softly structured layer with a zip front and a classic collar, giving it a slightly sporty feel while still feeling refined. The fabric has a bit of stretch for comfort, but not so much that it feels overly casual. This one ran a little loose on me, but I’d say it’s true to size in that signature Eileen Fisher relaxed way.
This whole look would be perfect for early fall days where you need light layers—but still want to feel put together. It’s clean, comfortable, and modern without being trendy.
Textured Knit Meets Modern Utility
Here’s the Bubble Jacquard Crew Neck Top again, this time styled with a different bottom to show its versatility.
The Cotton Wide-Leg Pants are a standout in their own right. I’m wearing a size XS regular, which has a 26″ inseam (they also come in petite with a 24.5″ inseam). These have a slightly cropped leg, large front patch pockets, and a subtly workwear-inspired vibe. The cotton is a medium-weight organic weave, with a textural feel that plays nicely against the bubble knit.
One interesting detail: these pants are garment-dyed, meaning both the fabric and thread were dyed after construction. That gives them a rich, even tone throughout—something you don’t always notice right away, but it makes a difference in how refined they look.
This is a pairing I could see transitioning easily from now through fall, just by swapping out the shoes or layering a lightweight jacket over the top.
This try-on reminded me why I come back to Eileen Fisher again and again. The fabrics feel good, the colors are thoughtful, and the shapes…when chosen for my shape…offer ease without looking sloppy.
Their commitment to sustainability, quality fabrics, and timeless design continues to stand out in a world of fast fashion. The pieces may be simple, but when the fit is right, they feel like clothing you can actually live in and feel good about wearing.
