Now that Cyber Week is behind us and cold weather is settling in, I’m excited to look ahead to the winter fashion trends. I always find myself naturally shifting my wardrobe this time of year—reaching for cozier layers, richer textures, and deeper hues. And with so many great sales happening right now, it’s a perfect moment to refresh your closet with a few pieces that feel modern and will take you all the way through the season.
While spring and fall tend to usher in the big silhouette changes and overarching themes, winter brings a handful of smaller updates that can be fun to incorporate and help your outfits feel current. These little details—micro trends, if you will—tend to show up in colors, textures, accessories, and subtle styling choices. After some research and plenty of window shopping, I pulled together seven specific trends that are popping up everywhere and are easy to work into an everyday wardrobe.
Of course, personal style always comes first. Not every trend will work for every person, which is why I chose seven—so you can pick and choose what resonates. The goal isn’t to overhaul your closet; it’s to stay open to what feels fresh while staying true to what you love. And if you come across a trend you’re unsure about, think through how you might tweak it to fit your style. Often it’s less about adopting the boldest version and more about making subtle shifts that still feel like you. That’s the key to keeping your wardrobe feeling modern without feeling like you’re chasing every trend.
Easy Winter Trends to Freshen Up Your Look
Here are the wearable winter trends I’m loving for 2026. Whether you try one or all of them, I hope they give you a few fresh ideas to inspire your winter wardrobe!
#1. Brown Coats Replace Black as the New Winter Neutral

Brown was everywhere this fall, and it’s not slowing down—it’s actually becoming one of the biggest color trends of winter 2026. For years, the default coat colors were camel or black, but this season the focus has shifted to deeper, richer shades of brown. Think chocolate, espresso, and other saturated cocoa tones that feel both modern and timeless.
What I love about this trend is how wearable it is. Brown pairs beautifully with almost everything—denim, black, winter white, grey, and even this season’s soft pinks. It’s warm, flattering, and adds an instant touch of sophistication to even the simplest outfit. If you’re adding just one new coat to your winter wardrobe this year, make it a rich brown.
I recently picked up the Madewell Alonzo Coat while it was on sale (the brown sold out fast!), and I also bought the Zara Scarf Coat earlier this fall, which I’ve been reaching for more than I expected. I’ll link a few other beautiful brown options below.

#2: Sheer Hose Are Back (A Softer Alternative to Opaque Tights)

After years of heavy black tights dominating winter outfits, sheer hosiery is making a quiet comeback. I know many women don’t love hose, but I’ve always been a fan—especially a classic sheer black. They add instant polish without the weight, and it’s nice to see them trending again.
You’ll see them called everything from sheer tights to simply sheers, but they’re really just the updated version of pantyhose. Don’t worry—these are not your grandmother’s stockings. Today’s styles are smooth, comfortable, and have a chic matte finish that looks elevated rather than shiny.
You can keep things simple with sheer black or brown, or play with subtle textures and patterns. If you prefer a nude look, go for a matte finish in a tone that blends seamlessly with your skin.
Brands I recommend are Spanx, Wolford, and Falke—they’re pricier, but they last and look amazing. And for a wider range of nude shades (especially for deeper skin tones), Heist is a great resource. I rounded up a bunch of great options below!

#3: Slimmer Boot Silhouettes (A Return to Sleek, Refined Styles)

This trend carried over from fall, but it’s worth highlighting again because boots are foundational to most winter wardrobes. This season, we’re seeing a clear shift away from the chunky, heavy styles of the past few years—think thick soles, bulky block heels, and platform silhouettes. In their place are boots with cleaner lines, sleeker profiles, and a more refined overall shape.
Look for low or block heels, almond or softly rounded toes, and simple, uninterrupted uppers. This applies to both ankle boots and knee-high styles. Decorative buckles, cutouts, and other extra details aren’t as prominent this year; the most modern boots feel streamlined and minimal.
Taller ankle shafts continue to trend as well, which makes them easy to wear under all lengths and silhouettes of denim. And with skirts or dresses, knee-high boots look especially current—particularly when paired with sheer hosiery, as mentioned above.

#4. Tennis Jewelry, Reimagined

Tennis bracelets and necklaces are having a major moment this winter, and my inner 80s child is thrilled. What feels especially fresh for 2026 is how they’re being worn. Instead of letting a tennis piece stand alone, the modern approach is all about layering—mixing different lengths, widths, and textures for a look that feels intentional but still effortless.
A tennis necklace looks especially modern layered with a delicate gold chain, a simple pendant, or even a shorter choker-style piece. For bracelets, try pairing a tennis bracelet with a slim gold chain, a classic bangle, or even your everyday watch. And if you really love the trend, stacking two tennis pieces in different sizes is another chic way to wear it.
The key is variety—combining sparkle with smooth metal so each layer stands out without overwhelming the look. Tennis jewelry has always been timeless, but this layered styling makes it feel suddenly modern again, especially with winter knits.

#5: Winter Brights (Pink Takes Center Stage)

From soft rose to bold fuchsia, pink is coming in hot for winter 2026. It’s a refreshing departure from fall’s earth tones and pairs beautifully with grey denim, black, ivory, and even brown. What makes this trend feel especially new is the range of shades popping up—everything from muted blush and mauve to bright, saturated pinks that really stand out against winter neutrals.
If you’re not sure where to start, try a pink sweater with grey denim or layer a soft blush knit under a brown coat (it’s a bit softer and more subtle than pairing it with black). For something bolder, a pink scarf, beanie, or even a statement coat can add a fun hit of color without overwhelming your outfit. Softer pinks read almost like neutrals, while brighter tones bring a little energy to those cold, grey days.
No matter how you wear it, pink is an easy way to brighten up a winter wardrobe—and it’s much more versatile than you might expect.

#6: Plaid with a Twist (Modern Takes on a Classic Pattern)

Plaid always makes an appearance in fall and winter, but for 2026 it’s showing up in fresh, more elevated ways. It’s less lumberjack and more feminine and tailored—think softer color palettes, cleaner lines, and updated silhouettes that make plaid feel refined rather than rugged.
You might try pairing a plaid blouse with black jeans or trousers for dinner out, or look for plaid jackets and coats in polished styles like topcoats and peacoats. These sleeker designs feel much more modern than the oversized shackets of recent years and work seamlessly with the neutral pieces already in your closet. It’s an easy way to add pattern and interest to your winter outfits without stepping too far outside your comfort zone.

#7 Sherpa Accents: Cozy Texture in All the Right Places

Sherpa isn’t new for winter, but it’s having a major moment this season. In addition to the traditional teddy coats, I’m seeing lots of sherpa vests right now—a trend I really like because it’s an easy, casual way to layer without feeling too fussy. I’m also noticing sherpa accents on shoes and boots. It adds warmth and texture without overwhelming your outfit, which makes it an easy trend to incorporate even if you prefer a more understated vibe.
I’m also spotting lots of jackets with subtle sherpa details along the collar or lining, which gives them a polished, modern feel. Sherpa bags remain especially popular, too. It’s a small update, but one that instantly brings a cozy element to your winter wardrobe.
I hope these winter fashion trends give you a few fresh ideas as we head into the cold-weather months. None of them require a big wardrobe overhaul—just small, thoughtful updates that can make your outfits feel more current this season. As always, try the trends that appeal to you and skip the rest. I’d love to hear which ones you’re excited to wear, so let us know in the comments!
