Types of Thanksgiving Day Outfits

In addition to the great company and delicious food, another thing I love about this holiday is how many different ways it can be celebrated. One person might host a formal dinner with sterling silver on the table, while another enjoys a super casual get-together, snuggled up on the sofa watching the Macy’s Parade in comfy clothes. And honestly, both sound fantastic to me!

In this post, I’m sharing a few Thanksgiving Day outfits that range from very dressy to incredibly casual—keeping you stylish no matter your plans for the day!

Formal Thanksgiving Day Outfits

In our family, we typically don’t have a formal Thanksgiving feast—we fall somewhere between casual and dressy. That doesn’t mean I don’t love dreaming up a few chic outfit ideas for those of you who do! Let’s dive into some formal Thanksgiving Day outfit inspiration.

A Formal Floral

Thanksgiving always feels like the perfect opportunity for a fall floral moment. I’ve been eyeing this dress—it would be such a beautiful choice for a festive meal. Pair it with these boots and these earrings, and layer this faux fur jacket on top for a bit of warmth. For the bag, I’d go with something structured and sleek, like this purse.

Looking for a few more floral options? This maxi dress is such a fun style, this jersey dress looks stylish but also comfy and this satin dress is absolutely stunning.

A Sleek Suit

This blazer and matching pants are where chic meets comfort. I love this look as an alternative to a dress—it’s modern, effortless, and perfect for Thanksgiving. This newly released paisley velvet top would look gorgeous layered underneath. Complete the outfit with this this under-$100 bag in black or this under-$150 option.

If you’re going for a cozier vibe, try pairing this intarsia sweater with the pants. Depending on how the pant hem falls on you, I’d finish the look with either a simple heel or a sleek black loafer. Personally, I love it with loafers!

Semi-Formal Thanksgiving Day Outfits

Okay, let’s say you want to dress up a bit for your Thanksgiving celebration—but it’s not an all-out formal get-together. I feel like most of my gatherings fall into this category! Here are a few Thanksgiving Day outfit ideas that are perfect for a semi-dressy celebration.

A Monochromatic Look

If you follow closely, you know I love Tnuck, and I love their Ashford pant. I’m actually considering wearing the Ashford in merlot with this velvet wrap jacket and these shoes for a head-to-toe maroon look. Another great option would be these drapey satin pants for a bit more comfort!

If green is more your speed, these green velvet pants would look incredible with this quilted jacket. I’d style this Thanksgiving outfit with these platform shoes—which I’m obsessed with—and complete the look with this under-$150 bag.

Sweater Dressing

I think a sweater dress might be the coziest thing you can wear come fall—and they make wonderful Thanksgiving Day outfits! Some of my current favorites include this one, this one, and this one.

Lately, I’ve been styling my sweater dresses with a great belt, like this one or this one, and boots. If dresses aren’t your thing, you could easily recreate a similar semi-formal vibe with a skirt—check out my post on chic skirt outfit ideas for styling inspo! A few of my favorite boot options include this tall suede pair, this woven pair, and these riding boots. If you opt for a woven boot, I love the idea of pairing it with a matching woven bag!

Want to layer on top of your sweater dress for a little extra warmth? Try a stylish vest or a chic faux fur shrug—and if you really want to lean into the faux fur, check out this bag!

Casual Cozy Thanksgiving Day Outfits

Okay, now let’s talk about what to wear for a very casual, no-frills Thanksgiving get-together. These looks are perfect for lounging on the couch or bundling up by an outdoor fire pit!

Cashmere Queen

If I’m lounging, my go-to look is currently this cozy cashmere set! For Thanksgiving, I’d rock it with a great pair of sneakers like these green Adidas or these Veja sneakers, plus a classic wool coat. I’d also probably add a cozy, oversized scarf. If you are feeling a bit more daring try the look with the trending wool triangle scarf!

If the cashmere hoodie feels a bit too casual, you can always switch it up and pair the pants with a classic crew, a puff-sleeve crew, or even a cable sweater!

Denim Days

Jeans are always a classic choice—if you’re willing to wear hard pants for Thanksgiving! Right now, I’m loving this sweater, this sweater, and this sweater. A timeless fisherman sweater is also a great option during the holidays. I’d pair them with a classic pair of jeans like these, or go for a trendier barrel-leg style like this one. To keep it casual, I’d finish the look with timeless flats like these or a simple pair of loafers.
